Jesy Nelson was born in 1991 in Romford, London, England to a single mother Janice. She has a sister jade and brothers Jonathan and Joseph.

Before participating in The X Factor Jesy worked as a bartender. At her first audition, she performed the song Bust Your Windows by Jasmine Sullivan. During her stay at The X Factor, she received many threats over the Internet and struggled to deal with it.

From March 2012 to June 2013, she met with Jordan Banjo, a dancer from Diversity. In the autumn of 2013, Jesy and Jordan Banjo met again, but in June 2014 again ended their relationship.

Since the summer of 2014, Jesy Nelson dating with the lead singer of Rixton — Jake. In July 2015 Jake made her an offer to marry him.
